Independence Day of Azerbaijan was celebrated in Sofia
The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Bulgaria organized an official reception in Sofia on the occasion of 28 May - Independence Day.
The event was attended by ministers, high-ranking representatives of the Presidential Administration and the Cabinet of Ministers, members of the People's Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, heads of state institutions, well-known public and political, scientific and cultural figures, heads of media organizations, businessmen, leading representatives of the diplomatic corps and members of the Azerbaijani diaspora.
Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bulgaria Huseyn Huseynov spoke about the important role of 28 May - Independence Day in the history of Azerbaijan's statehood, emphasizing that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first parliamentary republic in the Muslim world, created the national state institutions of Azerbaijan in a short period of time, established the ideas of national independence in Azerbaijani society, and ensured equal rights and freedoms for all citizens, regardless of religious and ethnic affiliation, including women's suffrage, before many Western countries.
The Ambassador also noted that as a result of the development strategy and successful domestic and foreign policy determined by the great leader Heydar Aliyev, the modern Republic of Azerbaijan, the legal successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, emerged from the crisis in a short period of time and embarked on the path of political, economic, social and cultural progress. Today, Azerbaijan continues to move steadily on the path of development, becoming one of the most trusted and influential states in the world.
Speaking at the event, Co-Chair of the Azerbaijan-Bulgaria Intergovernmental Commission, Minister of Energy of Bulgaria Jecho Stankov noted that his country attaches special importance to partnership relations with Azerbaijan and that Azerbaijan has established itself as a reliable partner on a global scale, and also expressed his determination that Azerbaijan-Bulgaria relations will continue to develop at a high level.
Examples of Azerbaijani folk and classical music were performed at the event.
